Course Description.

This twin course builds on the knowledge and skills gained on the Computing Basic Skills Course.

No matter where you work or what your job involves, there’s a good chance a computer will be a basic tool you’ll be expected to use. It is in your interest to develop the skills you need to use a computer confidently - it might help you get a job, do your job more quickly and easily or advance your career. As businesses become increasingly reliant on computers, it’s vital that you develop basic IT skills if you don’t want to be left behind. The course will help equip inexperienced computer users with the basic IT skills and confidence you need to be effective in a modern, computer-reliant business.

Aims

‘Using A Computer’ will teach you IT skills and give you plenty of hands-on practice as you develop computer knowledge and confidence. Subjects covered are:

Understand about ways to store data
Know about how you can use computers in your everyday life
Know about how you can use computers at work
Move around the Windows desktop
Know how to manage files
Write, send and manage e-mail messages
Perform tasks using word processing software
Perform tasks using spreadsheet software
Security. Protect your computer and your data from common threats
